Retro Mama :: Hans and Greta Doll Giveaway

1.29.2015

I'm already in the mood for Spring cleaning, and I’ve got some cute squishy friends who are eager to come out and play, so, I think I’ll have a giveaway!

Retro Mama | Hans and Greta Doll Giveaway Hans and Greta have been patiently waiting for their new homes for a long time! I made them a while back as samples for a sewing class I was teaching--here's a WIP photo

A photo posted by Kim Kruzich (@retro_mama) on

Okay, a LONG time ago! (You'll notice that I didn't stuff Greta's limbs until after putting her together. I think I prefer it that way, how do you like to do it?)

This week's giveaway will have two winners, one will win Hans and the other will get Greta! Hans is wearing a very Spring-y mushroom shirt and corduroy shorts with pockets for collecting skipping stones and marbles. Hans was one of my favorite patterns to design, I found it a bit trickier to make a little boy doll than a girl, but it was definitely worth hemming and hawing over every detail to get him just right. That vintage apple measuring tape is just the cutest, right?

Several of you had asked whether I would have a doll pattern in my book and the answer is YES! You can get a glimpse of her here on the cover (by the way, Scrap Happy Sewing is available for preorder, yippee!), and I'll give you a closer look at her soon.

For your chance to win a doll, leave a comment below telling me how long you have been sewing, when you plan to start, or what is the super crafty hobby that you love instead! The giveaway is open to all, no matter where you live, and the winners will be announced Wednesday, February 4.

If you have a strong preference for either Hans or Greta let me know in your comment and I will enter you into the drawing for only that doll. Please make sure that your name is attached to an e-mail address so I have a way to contact you if you've won!

Good luck!

  2. They are so cute!!! Both of them! My daughter would give one of them a great new home, I'm sure! I have not been sewing for a long time. I am still learning, but I love it. Unfortunately I don't have much time, but I hope that will only get better in the future! I like your blog! My mail: liespossemiers@hotmail.com

  3. They look so great. And since I am from brothers-grimm-country I'd love to give one of them a good home.
I started sewing three years ago but there's still a lot to learn and practice. I also love to crochet and to do watercolour paintings. Last fall I taught myself how to knit. It also brings a lot of joy to me.
Being kreative is such a wonderful thing and having a house full of handmade treasures makes me happy.
    Looking forward to your book.
    Greetings from germany. Angela

  4. Aw! Those two are adorable! I've been sewing for a while now, but by hand mostly! And I've just conquered my fear of sewing with the sewing machine, so I'm trying to make a penguin now! The advice I was given was to stuff the arms first, so I'm going to do that.. But maybe I'll try your way for next time! :) And where did you get that apple measuring tape? Supercute!! Hugs from Amsterdam :)

  5. Awww, these are so cute! I am from Germany, so I am not sure if I can join the lottery :-)
I've started sewing when I started working - I figured I needed a hobby. Took sewing classes and am fully addicted now :-) I am especially into quilting, and I love sewing my own clothing :-)
Best wishes from sunny Potsdam :-)

  9. I love these dolls. I have been sewing longer than I care to admit. I started as a young girl almost 55 years old - told you I hate to admit how long it has been. Sewing and crochet are my passions. Thanks for the chance to win one of these lovely dolls.

  10. Love your dolls! I have been sewing for a few years. I think I started making dresses for my barbie dolls when I was about ten or eleven. That's also when I started to crochet, which is my favorite craft (sewing is a very very close second!) I find it funny that I love these hand crafts so much, when my mum hates them all!
I have tried to make dolls, I've made a few, but they all have that high school feeling to them. They never come out as professional as yours :)

  12. Oh my, your dolls are way to cute!
I am following your blog since a long white, from Paris - France, it is very inspiring.
I am not very good at sewing, so as I have found that crocheting is way much easier, I am learning how to crochet.
I need to learn to knit now =)
Thanks for this giveaway, good luck to all of the girls.
    Have a great day.

Would love to have one of yours but it would be hard to part with3018

  20. I have been sewing for 64 years, wow that's a long time and I am still going strong. My favorite craft's are many, I make snowmen (sewn) and Altered Art and painting keepsake boxes to name a few. Right now am finishing up a sewing box for my grand-daughter, working on 3 quilts, embroidering Halloween pillows for gifts, and getting supplies together to make a new Halloween quilt to be used as a tablecloth for my kitchen table. I love sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting, needlepoint, and floral designing to name a few. I am never bored and there is never enough time to accomplish what I would like to do. Love your dolls, They would look great in my doll bedroom.

I knit a bit but mostly use recycled fabric to make things.
However recently I got swayed into patchwork with Katja Muraks book and online BOM
The New Hexagon is the book and the Facebook group is The New Hexagon Millefiori BOM - its worth a look!
Mind you I have never had any success at all at making cloth dolls. Mine have never had as much personality as yours : )

My story began sewing at the age of 6 years old when my mom bought a sewing machine. It was love at first sight! As an adult, I began to sew their own clothes. But becoming a mother my dear boy, I realized that I like cozy home decor, more than clothes. So I sew... sew ...and do not intend to stop more!

  61. Hi Kim, these little guys are gorgeous. Well I have been sewing(not very well) from when I was a little girl.I am thinking around 10 or 11, my Nan set me up on her front sleepout with her old electric singer machine and an old pillow case and a tea towel and a few bits of lace and ribbon and I made blankets and pillows for my dolly's. I then did Home science in high school and was fascinated by reading sewing pateren from back to front and unlike the other girls I could just do it. I guess it is in our genes. Since then I have sewn soft furnishings for my home, an heirloon Christening gown when I went through my heirloom and smocking stage in my twenties and now I like quilting and patchwork. I am now just 46 have just built myself a sewing studio in my back yard and I still have that old singer that was my nan's in my lounge room as a lamp table....and it still works!!
Thanks for letting me be part of your swap :)
